Treatment of Refractory Pruritic Dermatitis in the Setting of Primary Biliary Cholangitis and CREST Syndrome With Upadacitinib.

Summary: Imagine having a severe, itchy skin rash that just won't go away, no matter what creams or pills you try. This happened to a patient who also had two rare autoimmune conditions: a liver disease called PBC and a connective tissue disorder called CREST syndrome. Doctors decided to try a medication called upadacitinib, which is usually used for other types of inflammation. Amazingly, it worked! Not only did her terrible itch and rash clear up, but her liver health improved too. This is the very first time this type of drug has been used successfully for skin problems linked to an autoimmune liver disease.
