Trump’s plan to give seniors cheaper obesity drugs in Medicare hits a snag
Summary: The Trump administration wanted to help seniors get popular weight-loss drugs for cheap. They made a special deal with drug makers like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. The plan was to drop the price of these medicines to $245 a month, and seniors would only pay $50 out of their own pockets. But there was a big problem. Insurance companies said no to the pilot program, called BALANCE, because it would cost them too much money. Now, the government has to find a different way to pay for these drugs outside of the regular Medicare Part D drug program.
