UCB to acquire maker of antibody treatments for autoimmune diseases

Summary: UCB is buying a new startup called Candid Therapeutics for $2.2 billion. Candid makes special medicines that "reset" the immune system to fight autoimmune diseases. Instead of just blocking the immune system, their drug uses T cells to wipe out problem B cells. Entrepreneur Ken Song started Candid in 2024 and was planning to take it public before UCB made a surprise offer.

Other biotech news includes the U.S. losing scientists due to visa delays, a new Huntington's disease treatment getting funding, China tightening rules on drug supplies, and a federal court blocking the mailing of abortion pills.
