UCLA Center for Advanced Biotherapies expands capacity to develop and deliver cell and gene therapies

Summary: UCLA just opened a massive new 14,000-square-foot lab called the Center for Advanced Biotherapies. For 30 years, they've been making custom cell and gene therapies for things like cancer, HIV, and sickle cell disease, but they simply ran out of space. This new facility doubles their capacity, allowing them to make up to 150 personalized treatments a year. Because the lab is located right on the UCLA hospital campus, scientists can create a custom treatment from a patient's own cells and deliver it to them on the exact same day.
