UN warns of mounting mental health emergency for children in Palestine
Summary: The United Nations is warning of a massive mental health emergency for children in Palestine. Right now, over one million children in Gaza urgently need mental health support. Constant violence, losing family members, and the destruction of homes and schools are causing severe depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Because families are dealing with extreme poverty and a lack of safety, there is also a dangerous rise in child marriage and the exploitation of young girls. Without school or safe places, girls face much higher risks of violence. The UN is working hard to provide safe spaces and mental health programs, but they warn that the ongoing attacks are violating children's basic human rights to health, education, and protection.
