Unveiling the mTOR pathway modulation by SGLT2 inhibitors: a novel approach to Alzheimer's disease in type 2 diabetes.
Summary: Alzheimer's disease is becoming increasingly common, yet effective treatments remain scarce. Scientists have identified a crucial link between metabolic disorders, like Type 2 Diabetes, and Alzheimer's. A cellular signal known as "mTOR" often gets stuck in the "on" position in both conditions, leading to brain inflammation, plaque buildup, and cell damage. This review highlights that SGLT2 inhibitors—common drugs used to treat diabetes—can effectively turn this signal down. By regulating the mTOR pathway, these diabetes medications may reduce brain plaque, protect blood vessels, and improve memory, offering a promising new strategy for managing Alzheimer's disease.
