U.S. State Department to Start Revoking Passports for Parents With $2,500 of Unpaid Child Support

Summary: The U.S. State Department is cracking down on parents who haven't paid their child support. Starting May 8, if you owe more than $2,500, your U.S. passport could be canceled! Before, this rule only stopped people from renewing their passports. Now, the government is actively taking them away. The first group to lose their passports are about 2,700 people who owe $100,000 or more. If you are traveling in another country when your passport is canceled, you will have to go to a U.S. embassy to get a special paper just to fly back home. The only way to get your passport back is to pay what you owe.
