Usefulness of the AHEAD score for prediction of all-cause death in patients with acute and chronic coronary syndromes.

Summary: Doctors use a simple checklist called the AHEAD score to guess if heart failure patients might pass away. They wanted to see if this same checklist works for patients who just had surgery to open blocked heart arteries. They looked at records for over 9,000 patients! The AHEAD score checks five things: irregular heartbeat, low iron, being over 70 years old, kidney problems, and diabetes. They found that this simple score is actually much better at predicting survival chances than other common tests doctors use.
