Vabysmo Label Update Extends Treatment for Macular Edema in RVO

Summary: The FDA just gave the green light for an eye medicine called Vabysmo to be used for a longer time. It treats a condition where fluid builds up in the eye after a blocked vein (called macular edema after retinal vein occlusion, or RVO). Before, patients had to stop taking it after six months, but now they can keep getting their monthly eye injections without a sudden stop.

This medicine works by blocking two proteins (VEGF and Ang-2) that cause blood vessel problems in the eye. Doctors say this update is great because patients who are doing well on the medicine won't be forced to switch to a different treatment. Vabysmo is also used to treat other eye problems like wet age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema.
