Validating the Measure of Processes of Care for Service Providers (MPOC-SP(A)) tool in adult intensive care units.
Summary: When a loved one is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), how well do doctors and nurses include the family in their care? To measure this, researchers use a survey called the MPOC-SP(A). It was originally made for rehab centers and baby ICUs, but it had never been tested for adult ICUs. In this study, a team of ICU experts in South Africa reviewed the 27-question survey to see if it works for adults. They scored each question based on how useful it was and removed three questions that didn't fit. Now, hospitals have a strong, 24-question tool to help measure and improve family-centered care in adult ICUs!
