Virginia Supreme Court blocks redistricting referendum and invalidates new congressional map
Summary: The Virginia Supreme Court just threw out a new voting map that voters recently approved. Why? Because state lawmakers didn't follow the rules. The state constitution says lawmakers must vote on map changes before an election starts. But this time, they voted after early voting had already begun.
This is a huge loss for Virginia Democrats, who hoped the new map would give them a 10-1 advantage in Congress. Outside groups spent nearly $100 million trying to get the new map passed, but now Virginia will stick with its old map from 2022.
