Virtual Hybrid H@H Model Offers Comparable Safety, More Comfort

Summary: Imagine getting hospital-level care without ever having to leave your couch! A new study from the Mayo Clinic looked at a "Hospital at Home" program where sick patients stayed in their own houses. Instead of staying in a hospital building, these patients had virtual video visits with their doctors and got in-person help from nurses and paramedics who came right to their door.

Researchers compared these at-home patients to people staying in a regular hospital. The results? Staying at home was just as safe as being in the hospital. Both groups had similar rates of having to go back to the hospital within 30 days, and there were zero deaths in the home group. Even better, the patients at home reported feeling much more comfortable (84% felt comfortable at home compared to only 61% in the hospital). While the study mostly looked at one hospital system and needs to include more diverse patients in the future, it proves that virtual home care is a safe, cozy, and effective way to heal.
