Visfatin (rs3801266) and Adiponutrin (rs738409) gene single nucleotide polymorphisms in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Summary: Hashimoto's disease is a common thyroid problem that can make you feel tired and cause weight gain. Doctors want to know exactly what causes it so they can prevent and treat it better. In this study, researchers looked at the genes of 96 people with Hashimoto's and 96 healthy people. They found that two specific genes, called Visfatin and Adiponutrin, are linked to the disease. People with certain changes in these genes had higher body weight, more fat in their blood, and worse thyroid problems. This means these genes might make some people more likely to get Hashimoto's, possibly because of how they affect body fat.
