Visual outcomes in retinoblastoma: an analysis of 426 eyes in an Indian cohort.
Summary: Retinoblastoma is the most common type of eye cancer in children. A recent study looked at over 300 children in India to see how well they could see after being treated for this disease. Sadly, children who had tumors in the center of their eye (the macula) or who went to the doctor when the cancer was already advanced had much worse vision. About 1 in 4 of these children had poor vision, and nearly 1 in 5 were legally blind. However, catching the cancer early makes a huge difference. The study shows that early eye checks and quick treatment are the best ways to save a child's sight.
Retinoblastoma Vision: Late stage and macular tumors cause blindness; early screening is crucial.
