We do not have evidence based methods for the treatment of cartilage defects in the knee.

Summary: Knee cartilage damage is a common and painful issue, but determining the best way to fix it remains a medical puzzle. Researchers conducted a massive review of over 56,000 studies to compare popular surgical treatments like microfracture and cartilage transplants. Surprisingly, they found that the vast majority of research on this topic is of low scientific quality. When analyzing the reliable data from nearly 7,000 patients, they discovered that no single surgery proved better than the others. While patients generally improved, we still lack high-quality evidence to declare a "gold standard" treatment for cartilage repair.
