What Is Huntington’s Disease?
Summary: Huntington’s disease is a rare, inherited condition that slowly breaks down nerve cells in the brain. Because it gets worse over time, people with the disease may experience involuntary muscle movements, clumsiness, mood swings, and memory loss.
While there is no cure for Huntington's, there is hope. Doctors can prescribe medications to help control the unpredictable movements and mood changes. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy are also great tools to help patients manage their daily activities, stay mobile, and communicate. Most people live about 15 to 20 years after their first symptoms appear.
