With Austedo at helm, Teva's impressive innovative drug sales signal company's successful metamorphosis
Summary: Teva Pharmaceuticals is having a great year! Under CEO Richard Francis, the company is changing from just making generic pills to creating brand-new, innovative medicines. In the first quarter, they made about $4 billion, beating expectations and sending their stock up nearly 10%.
Their big winners were Austedo for movement disorders (sales went up 41%) and Ajovy for migraines (up 35%). Even though their older generic drug sales dropped by 16%, their new drugs are making up for it. Teva also just bought a company called Emalex for $700 million to get a new drug for Tourette syndrome. They hope this will help thousands of children who need better treatments.
